It’s time to share some Spring wellness support!
In Eastern medicine, spring is the season of the wood element, the liver meridian and liver organ.
The liver meridian is linked to our eye health as well as maintaining the smooth flow of energy through our body.
Anger, depression and irritability are the emotions associated with the wood element when it is out of balance.
Many of us are starting spring cleaning in our homes and perhaps wanting more lightness in our physical and emotional bodies. It can be helpful to wander through your home and workspace for items that are no longer serving you and donate or give them away.
Incorporating greens and citrus is an easy way to enhance our nutritional profile as well as relieve stagnation in the spring. Asparagus season is almost here (late March-June is prime in Seattle). I’m linking my go-to asparagus recipe for you to try here. You can even drink the steaming water to help with puffiness!
Simple, inexpensive things like adding apple cider vinegar to warm water or a pinch of sea salt and citrus to your water provides electrolytes to help with hydration to keep all your organs healthy and functioning properly.
Go for greens
Dark greens contain fiber, magnesium and folate and therefore are preferable. Spring marks the beginning of the growing season in the northwest, with many fabulous greens to choose from. I love arugula because it converts to nitric oxide which helps improve circulation, and is great for nourishing the gut microbiome. Try eating more greens if you are trying to curb sugar cravings. :). The more you consume, the more you will crave, and the healthier you will feel.
Go for a short walk in the morning and the evening to reset your sleep/wake cycle. Even a quick 5-10 minute walk will improve your mood and reduce stagnation in your body.
